Butterfly Gardening. Member Holly Markwart Swehla conducted a monarch butterfly presentation, complete with handouts showing monarch migration patterns throughout North America. Explanation of monarchs habitat, hatching, and limited food source was explained. The interesting migration route displayed that Monarchs west of the Rockies migrate to southern California, and those east of the Rockies travel thousands of miles to a small area in central Mexico. The facts of their comeback from near extinction was encouraging, and we were shown how to continue the aid that we, as gardeners , can help to improve those numbers. It was educational. 24 members attended the program.
